Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Kaga no kami Fujiwara Sadahiro 加賀守藤原貞廣 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

加賀守貞廣 (Kaga no kami Sadahiro) was a swordsmith of the 康継 (Yasukuni) lineage in the 越前下坂派 (Echizen Shimohara school). Born in the 17th year of 寛永 (Kan'ei) (1640) in 越前下坂 (Echizen Shimohara), he was a skilled craftsman during the 元禄 (Genroku) period, creating swords in both 越前 (Echizen) and 京 (Kyoto). He signed his works as 加賀守藤原貞廣 (Kaga no kami Fujiwara Sadahiro) or 高柳加賀守藤原貞廣 (Takayanagi Kaga no kami Fujiwara Sadahiro). Many of his works feature a relatively straight-edge style, and works with irregular patterns are rare.

This sword retains the 寛文新刀 (Kanbun Shinto) style, with a notable difference between the base and tip. The steel is finely grained, well-forged, and polished with some texture, resulting in a beautiful finish. The 刃文 (hamon) is a bright, clear straight-edge style, with a rich variety in the blade edge, featuring mouse-like spots and delicate sand flows, making it a connoisseur's delight. There are no notable forging flaws, and the tang remains original, making it likely to pass the 特別保存刀剣鑑定 (NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate). The sword is well-balanced and easy to handle, making it a superior blade.

Although it has an old polish, it doesn't require polishing at the moment. However, due to its high quality, we recommend having it professionally polished. We are offering it at a price considering the polishing cost.

The accompanying 拵 (koshirae) is a luxurious piece with a waist cut and a spiral pattern lacquered in white sandalwood. The fittings around the 縁頭 (fuchi-gashira) are also of high design quality, reflecting the high status of the warrior who likely wore this sword. The interior of the 鯉口 (koiguchi) is in good condition, so we kindly ask that you refrain from using this 拵 (koshirae) for 居合 (iaido) practice and instead preserve it in its current state for future generations.

Bare weight: 672 grams.
Weight with 拵 (koshirae) and without scabbard: 948 grams.
