What is a Habaki?

The Habaki is an essential component of Japanese swords, such as the katana. It is a small, wedge-shaped metal collar that fits around the base of the blade and serves multiple important purposes. Typically made from brass, copper, or other metals, the Habaki ensures a snug fit between the blade and the scabbard (saya), preventing the blade from rattling or moving when sheathed.
