Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Musashi no kami Minamoto Toshishige  武蔵守源利重 NBTHK HOZON TOKEN Certificate

Rishige was a student of the first-generation Omi no Kami Hisamichi. He lived in Kyoto Nishinotoin, initially known as Musashi Daijo, and forged swords in Settsu Mita and Tanba Sasayama.

We are pleased to introduce an original sword acquired from Ehime. This sword features the typical Kanbun shinto style with a wide difference in width between the base and tip, and a shallow curve. The kitae (forging pattern) is well-forged ko-itame with a slightly visible grain, showing a faint midare utsuri around the monouchi area. The hamon is a bright and clear suguha, starting straight with the lower part of the blade showing intense nie along the edge with prominent sunagashi. As it progresses towards the tip, the hamon tightens with pointed and choji-like gunome, finishing with a single gunome at the yokote, and the boshi is straight with a rounded tip.

Although it has been slightly shortened, the sword is in excellent condition. The accompanying Type 98 military koshirae includes a removable field cover. The kabuto-gane (pommel) features a descending wisteria crest, and the saya (scabbard) is a high-quality wooden saya with a hon-urushi ishime finish. All metal fittings are numbered 47 and original. The sakura flower motifs on the kabuto-gane and ishizuke (end cap) are well-preserved without any wear. This is not a cobbled-together restoration but a well-preserved military koshirae, making it highly recommended for military enthusiasts.

Bare weight: 577 grams. Weight with koshirae: 975 grams.
