Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Harima Daijo Fuji (Tadakuni)住播磨大掾藤(藤原忠國) NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

忠國 is the son of 吉家, who was the brother of 初代忠吉, and his name was 橋本六郎左衛門. Initially named 廣則, he received the title 播磨大掾 in 寛永 11 and renamed himself 忠國. Initially, he engraved 播磨大掾 as "摩" in his works, which remain from the 寛永 period to the 寛文 period. In his later years, he called himself 播磨入道休鉄 and engraved 播磨大掾藤原忠國, 肥前住播磨大掾藤原忠國, and 肥前住播磨入道藤原休鉄 on his works. He is known as an outstanding member of the 脇肥前 school in 肥前国, famous for forging swords with a unique pattern called "虻の目" in the 互の目 style.

Although this sword has been shortened, losing part of its inscription, it still retains its elegant appearance with a noticeable difference in width from base to tip. The jigane is well-forged with tight small itame grains and has ji-nie and chikei. The hamon is bright and clear, in a wavy pattern mixed with 互ノ目, and it shows ashi, fine sunagashi, kinsuji, and yubashiri. The boshi is straight with a round tip. There are no notable forging flaws, and it is expected to pass the 特別保存刀剣鑑定. Despite being shortened and having its mune filed down for a saber fitting during the Meiji period, the blade's quality is exceptional. It has a blade length of 二尺三寸 and is more than adequate as an art sword. There are some unnoticeable cloudy areas, but they do not hinder appreciation.

Under the supervision of the store owner, 町井勲, a new practical koshirae has been made. When held, the sword balances well with the weight towards the hilt, making it comfortable to handle even with one hand.

Bare weight is 630 grams. Weight with koshirae and saya is 879 grams.
