Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Shigetsugu（Tosa） 重次（土佐）NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificate

Shigeji lived in Kochi and was known as Nakazawa Uemon. He studied swordsmithing under Kunioki, the second-generation Yoshimichi of Osaka.

This sword has a well-proportioned width from the base to the tip, giving it an extended kissaki. The kitae (forging pattern) features well-forged small itame hada with some standing grain and ji-nie, entering the chikei. The hamon is primarily ko-nie based, with a bright and clear nioiguchi, showcasing a variety of patterns including notare, gunome, suguha, and choji, all perfectly executed. The blade also features ashi, yo, sunagashi, and kinsuji, with the boshi being straight and ending in a round tip, extending to below the yokote on both sides.

The sword is well-balanced with a center of gravity towards the hilt and has no significant forging flaws. It allows the enjoyment of four different hamon patterns in one blade, and the high-quality polish enhances its sharp and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Due to his involvement in Kunioki's sword-making, the number of existing works by Tosa Shigeji is limited and rarely seen on the market. The craftsmanship evident in this sword indicates a high level of skill.
