Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Oshu ju Munetoshi  奥州住宗敏作 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificate

Regarding the swordsmith 宗敏, his name does not appear in any records, and according to the 日本美術刀剣保存協会, a certificate was issued recognizing him as an undocumented swordsmith. He may be related to 固山宗次.
The blade has a shallow curve with a noticeable difference in width between the base and the tip, and a relatively long tang. The center of gravity is near the handle, providing good balance, suggesting a design focused on cutting power in two-handed swordsmanship. The forging pattern consists mainly of straight grain (柾目) with some burl grain (杢), showing fine, well-forged steel. The hamon (刃文) is a middle straight temper line (中直刃調) with slight variations in width, featuring fine sand-like patterns (砂流) within the blade, and intricate activities intertwined with the forging pattern, including both large and small kinsuji (金筋). The boshi (鋩子) is straight with a rounded tip. This is a rare piece not documented in existing records, making it a valuable addition to any collection.

Bare blade weight: 782 grams.
