Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Yamashiro Daijo Kunishige 山城大掾國重 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

Yamashiro Daijo Kunishige, the younger brother of Otsuki Yogo Kunishige, received the title of Yamashiro Daijo in the second year of Shoho. He forged swords in Edo and Tsuyama in Sakushu, and along with the second generation Yamashiro Daijo Kunishige, they are known as Edo Mizuta.

This sword, with a wide and imposing shape, features well-forged ko-itame hada mixed with mokume hada. It showcases a brilliant gunome-midare hamon in a notare style, characteristic of Kunishige, with abundant ara-nie. Enjoy the intense nie, a hallmark of Edo Mizuta.

The accompanying koshirae is in excellent condition, with no signs of use in iai practice, and the koiguchi is clean. Replacing the tsuba with one featuring a dragon design would further enhance the value of the set.

Although the broad and grand appearance of the blade might appeal to those interested in tameshigiri (test cutting) and batto-do (sword drawing practice), this sword is a piece that should be preserved for posterity. Therefore, those looking for a sword for tameshigiri and batto-do should refrain from purchasing this piece. We highly recommend submitting it for the Tokubetsu Hozon Token (Special Preservation Sword) certification. While it stands a high chance of passing in its current state, having it polished before submission would further increase the likelihood of certification.

Bare weight: 853 grams. Weight with koshirae: 1,144 grams.
