Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Musashi no kami Fujiwara Kanenaka 武蔵守藤原兼中 NBTHK Tokubetsu Kichō Tōken Certificate

Kanenaka is said to be a later generation of 兼元. He forged swords in 越前一条 around the 永禄 period (early to mid-Edo period) and later moved to 江戸. 越前 experienced significant development after 織田信長's conquest and 柴田勝家's large-scale castle construction, attracting swordsmiths from 近江, 山城, 美濃, and other regions. Notable among these were the 康継 school and the 越前関 group, to which 兼中 belonged. 兼中 is a renowned master swordsmith from 越前, known for his sharp blades.

This sword has a well-proportioned width from base to tip and a moderate curvature, embodying the beauty of a traditional Japanese sword. The steel is well-forged with a 杢目 pattern, showing some grain and 地景. The 刃文 is a 直刃 with many small 足, accompanied by a 湯走風-like pattern, large 沸, and a 鋩子 that is straight with a rounded tip, extending deeply on both sides.

There is a 鍛筋 visible in the blade near the はばき on the 表 side, but otherwise, there are no significant flaws. The blade has undergone a meticulous foundation polish, showcasing its excellent preservation. Currently, there are some rust spots on the blade's center and near the tip, but they are not deep and can be removed through polishing, which we can offer at a reasonable price.

The accompanying 拵 features a luxurious 鮫皮 wrap and is in a completely original state, with no parts replaced. The fittings, including the 笄, are intact, and the 拵 provides a well-balanced, easy-to-handle feel when unsheathed. The 柄 shows no looseness, although there is some 鐔 rattling.

This sword is recommended for re-polishing and certification for both the blade and the 拵, ensuring long-lasting preservation and appreciation.

Bare weight: 759 grams.
Weight with koshirae and without saya: 1,074 grams.
