Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Hoki no kami Fujiwara Hirotaka Echizen ju 伯耆守藤原汎隆 越前住 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificate

Hirotaka (汎隆) is a representative swordsmith of the Echizen Shimohara school (越前下坂一派) and a disciple of Michimoto Kanetane (道本兼植), who inherited the tradition of Echizen Kanefusa (越前兼法). He inscribed his works with names such as Hoki no kami Fujiwara Hirotaka (伯耆守藤原汎隆), Echizen ju Hoki no kami Hirotaka (越前住伯耆守汎隆), and Hoki Daijo Hirotaka (伯耆大掾汎隆).

Hirotaka's works are highly regarded for their sharpness, earning a reputation as high-quality swords (業物). He was a popular smith within the Shimohara school (下坂派) and is still affectionately referred to as "Bonryu" (ぼんりゅう) or "Bontaka" (ぼんたか) today.

This sword features a slightly wider difference between the base and tip, with a ko-itame mokume mixed grain and ji-nie attached to the slightly blackish jigane, showcasing chikei. The hamon is a chu-suguha with a ko-nie base, where larger nie spread like scattered sand along the edge. The boshi is straight with a rounded return.

The accompanying koshirae has no looseness in the handle, and when drawn and held, it has an excellent balance with a center of gravity towards the hand, making it an easy-to-handle piece. *There is a forging line on the ridge towards the base of the blade.

Bare weight: 656 grams.
Weight with koshirae and without saya: 996 grams.
