Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by

Kashu ju Fujiwara Arihira 加州住藤原有平 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

有平 (Arihira) was the second son of 加賀兼若 (Kaga Kanewaka) (Echū no Kami Takahira). Despite coming from a renowned family, it is said that he produced few swords because he often worked on behalf of his father and elder brother. Kanewaka was a descendant of 志津兼氏 (Shizu Kanetsugu), and the third generation Jinroku moved from Mino to Kaga, becoming the first generation Kaga Kanewaka. Known as "Kaga Masamune," he gained great popularity in the Maeda domain.

Kanewaka's children included the eldest son 景平 (Kagehira), the second son 有平 (Arihira), and the fourth son 清平 (Kiyohira), with the third son succeeding the Kanewaka name.

This sword features a well-proportioned width difference between the base and tip, with an extended, sharp tip. The steel has a mixture of masame and ko-itame hada, with some visible chikei and a faint utsuri. The hamon is bright with a gentle outline, incorporating elements of gunome and gunome-choji. The blade edge has fine nie, ashi, and small sunagashi, with the boshi being straight with a rounded return on both sides.

*Currently, there are some rust spots and forging lines with fukure on the back edge of the blade.

The accompanying koshirae is a traditional Higo koshirae with a good atmosphere, and the handle has no looseness. When drawn and held, the balance is excellent with the center of gravity from the middle of the blade towards the hand, making it suitable for one-handed use.

Please consider having it re-polished for preservation.

Bare weight: 714 grams.
Weight with koshirae and without saya: 943 grams.
