Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Attributed to Harasawa Shigetane 澤原重胤 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

Shigetane, regarded as the finest craftsman among the disciples of Daikei Naotane. He signed his works with "Oshu Shirakawa Han Shigetane" and his style often resembles that of Naotane.

This sword is a reproduction of an old sword, actively forged in the late Edo period. Due to its high quality, it is presumed that it was modified to appear as a large suriage mumei (unsigned) sword. Even after being shortened, the width difference between the base and the tip is well balanced, and the slender appearance is beautiful. The strong straight-grained ko-itame hada is well forged and compact. The hamon is a gunome-midare with abundant ashi, sunagashi, and kinsuji, with the boshi being straight with slight irregularities and a rounded tip.

The balance is good with the weight focused towards the hilt, and since it fits into an existing saya, a new koshirae can be made inexpensively.

  • There is a very small nick on the edge (hagire).

Bare weight: 783 grams.
